Canada's government is a constitutional monarchy with a federal system, democratic roots, and a parliamentary government. Queen of Canada Elizabeth II is the head of state. The Queen appoints a Governer General to a five-year term as her represenitive. The Governer General serves on the advice of his or her Prime Minister. The leader of the party in power is the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister stays in power until the house of commons, consisting of 308 members, no longer supports them.
